It is paired with chicken curry or stew that is rich in Kerala spices. 

  • Paalappam and slow-cooked chicken curry is an ultimate combination, unlike anything else. The tender, juicy chicken is slow-cooked which gives it a soft texture. Paalappam and chicken curry are usually enjoyed during breakfast. However, it can also make a perfect dinner dish.


  • Fugias (Sweet Bread): This is a traditional Easter recipe prepared by Roman Catholics based in Mumbai and neighboring states. These are sweet, deep-fried breads consumed with Chicken or Sorpotel curries. The bread is made using maida, sugar, coconut juice, eggs, and yeast. 

  • Sorpotel and Sanna: Sorpotel and Sanna are prepared and relished in the Goa and Mangalore regions. Sorpotel, also known as Sarapatel is a Portuguese dish commonly cooked in Goa, Mangalore, and some parts of Mumbai. The main ingredients of Sorpotel are meat and offal. In order to make the dish, the meat is half-cooked, and then diced and cooked in a spicy rich vinegary sauce. This curry-like dish is enjoyed with Sanna, white steamed rice, or coconut bread. 

  • Prawn Balchao: This is a popular Goan dish enjoyed all year round. This spicy and tangy pickle/chutney can be enjoyed with hot steamed rice. This dish comes under the pickle or chutney category which is incorporated with juicy prawns. The prawn pieces are mixed with ginger, garlic, cloves, coriander, mustard seeds, and a masala paste. 

  • Ground Turkey Meat Ball Gravy: Although turkey is not so commonly used in India, this is a delicious recipe you can try at home. Turkey curry or Turkey kuruma is mainly prepared and relished in Pondicherry. This is a mouthwatering dish prepared using different types of spices like cloves, cinnamon, ginger, turmeric powder, jeera powder, red chili powder, and coriander powder. 

  • Homemade Grape Wine: Apart from this, people also prepare many other dishes and beverages to enjoy during Easter. For instance, people all around the country prepare homemade grape wine. It is a classic symbol of celebration in states like Kerala and Goa.  

  • Homemade grape wine is made using minimal ingredients. Some of the most common ingredients are black grapes, dry yeast, sugar, whole wheat, etc. All the ingredients are mixed thoroughly and stored in a container for nearly 21 days. The mixture is removed and strained into a jar. You can also add burnt sugar to the mixture to add a rich color. 


  • Easter Eggs and Bunny: Although Easter eggs and bunnies are not so common in India, people are slowly getting used to this tradition. You can prepare these items with some basic ingredients. Easter eggs are decorated eggs that symbolize the empty tomb of Jesus. They are also the most common gifts that people exchange around the world. Easter eggs are made using egg whites, sugar, almonds, and rose water. The yummy mixture is made into egg-shaped balls and decorated with colorful icing.
